concept illustration coal materiality and water.

The project team conducted extensive research and discussion to elaborate the concept of intervention. The choice of coal and water - original raw materials for energy production - represent an analogy of these original materials with the materials, finishes, coatings and technologies used in the building reform proposal. THE charcoal as a reference to the original building and its founder activity, as well as a representation of ancestry and history and a conceptual relationship with the old, or crude, or opaque, durable, or permanent. THE Water It is a reference to the current, the fluid, the passenger, It is a representation of the people, events, the present and of current and future activities, related to transparent materials, light, new, shiny, temporary. That is, coal and water are recovered in the project as a metaphor of the original raw materials and also as a constant reference for making design decisions.

The project proposal aims to enhance and highlight the original use of the building. The visitor must understand clearly that the plant was the Gasometer electricity production site from coal. The comprehensive survey conducted in the early stages of the project allowed the clear identification of the original spaces and with greater historical and cultural value.
